Military Veteran Medical Centres

Our Armed Forces are amongst the strongest individuals in our nation who have endured great sacrifice for our safety and freedom. We are forever grateful for their continued service. Unfortunately, at times our brave warriors suffer injuries while in combat which can result in severe injury and/or walking impairment. These selfless individuals are often left to recover with caregivers who often need an extra individual to perform walking safely. The A.R.M.M. can be that extra support for the wounded warrior so they can be more independent and to save their dignity.

What Are Military & Veteran Medical Centers?

Veteran medical centers are places where veterans are treated and taken care of during rehabilitation and recovery. These centers often treat veterans with re-learning how to walk, and other daily activities such as standing, and overall mobility issues from combat injuries or because of aging. These centers also have many patients who may have been admitted to rehab from a stroke, heart attack, parkinson’s or amputee so having a versatile device that can work with all these people is essential. BISEP has tested the A.R.M.M. assistive device with many individuals suffering from these aforementioned ailments and the data consistently shows that all patients using the A.R.M.M. improve their rehabilitation outcomes and improve their overall quality of life. Therefore having the A.R.M.M. available in these institutions is important in achieving greater rehabilitation outcomes. To learn more about our testing with patients, view our clinical trials page.

How A.R.M.M. Can Help The Veterans In Walking And Recovery?

Veterans are used to being strong and independent. Sadly, when injury occurs these veterans begin to lose their independence and subsequently their dignity. That’s why the A.R.M.M. is needed. This device gives individuals their independence back so they are not relying on many caregivers to complete their daily activities and walking. The A.R.M.M. has been proven to increase walking confidence and decrease fear of falling. It is the ideal assistive device to get our veterans back on their feet and feeling strong and independent once again.

  • 1. Faster Recovery Injury recovery can be a long and difficult process and can have a direct effect on a veteran’s mental health. The A.R.M.M. can improve recovery outcomes by providing support to the injured veteran. Furthermore, since they are not relying on as many caregivers they may be able to increase their recovery time by increasing their frequency of rehabilitation without increasing their costs. In addition the A.R.M.M. device can help prevent falls and maintain independence by allowing them to perform their daily chores like brushing teeth, going to the bathroom, or transferring to their favourite destinations allowing for less sedentary time and improved rehabilitation results
  • 2.Assists With Walking Veterans sometimes experience injuries that limit their walking ability and need to use a manual wheelchair or walker to assist them. In some cases individuals need someone to follow them behind with their wheelchair as they walk in case they become fatigued or fall back. However, often there isn’t anyone available to follow the patient behind with the wheelchair therefore these veterans are not walking as frequently delaying their recovery from injury. Fortunately, in military and veterans hospitals, healthcare professionals can increase the frequency of patient ambulation (walking) by using the A.R.M.M. mobility aid. The A.R.M.M. attaches the patients wheelchair to a walker, is shared amongst patients and is easy to switch between patients wheelchairs. This device alleviates the need for someone to follow the veteran when walking, increasing the frequency of their walking and improving outcomes. This simple device could be the solution needed for all veterans who have suffered injury or disease that has affected their walking ability. BISEP recommends that all ambulation training should be performed under the supervision of a medical professional to have maximum results and safety measures.
  • 3. Used In Amputee Rehab In some unfortunate accidents veteran’s injuries result in amputation of a lower extremity. This can affect a veteran’s ability to balance, complete weight bearing activities, transfer and even walk. Due to the sturdiness of the A.R.M.M. device and the upper rails that patients grasp onto, balance can easily be maintained to help with standing activities such as brushing teeth, cooking, washing hands, and many other tasks. We completed multiple case studies with amputees and they all reported increased walking speed, distance, confidence and quality of life when using the A.R.M.M. device. We believe that all recent amputee veterans can benefit from using the A.R.M.M. device to improve their balance, walking and transferring and gain their independence again.
  • 4. Exercise for Veterans in Wheelchairs veterans spend a lot of their careers completing exercises. Sadly, due to their injury some of these veterans cannot complete exercises independently anymore. With the A.R.M.M. device users can complete exercises in the comfort of their own homes, safely and independently. By using the drop down legs users can complete such exercises such as squats, lunges, walking on the spot, leg raises, heel raises, toe raises, leg & hip swings, sit to stand and many more.
